Wonderful piece, Karen. I too used to have an irrational fear of large dogs. However, after owning (not really the right word for living with a dog is it?) a miniature dachshund, I learnt to understand all dogs better, and my fear subsided.

I especially likes how your article expands on your fear of dogs to explore issues that we can all relate to.
