As a copywriter (Medium is a creative side project) it shocks me how much writers undersell themselves. Not only this, but with content mills like Upwork outsourcing work, employers pay below minimum wage to people from poorer countries. This drives down the price for everyone. The people in poorer countries are certainly not to blame—it's the system, lack of employment regulation, and greed of employers. Obviously, this kind of thing isn't confined to writing, but pervades the whole spectrum of business (Apple, Amazon etc.).
