Some logical fallacies are clearer than others (like ad hominem you mentioned). Appeal to authority is rife with epistemic fuckery. It was clearly evidenced in a lot of discourse about the pandemic; a Spaghetti Junction-like intersection of politics, policy, science, the unkwown, capitlism, conflict of interests, ethics, and hysteria.
