Marcus truly is the gift that keeps on giving. A little discussed fact about him (correct me if I'm wrong) is that, after repeatedly trying to deal with a Gaulish tribe who kept reneging on the terms, Marcus was committed to total genocide. The great, magnanimous stoic put the empire, and his role as its steward above all other concerns, and probably thought genocide was the only way forward.
