God willing, after your twenties, 'scene' is seen (sorry) for what it is: overrated, exhausting and ultimately unfulfilling. When I think of two famous writers who succeeded in being very much 'on the scene' , I immediately think of Capote and Wilde. Both were gay, unfairly criticized for their homosexuality, and boldly embraced the socialite lifestyle. Incidentally, neither had serious family commitments per se.
All in all, I would have to agree with your premise Ryan.
